Sitting Position after Embryo Transfer

Table of Contents

After the embryo transfer process in IVF, every step becomes important. First of all, congratulations on successfully reaching the embryo transfer stage. Kudos.

Because IVF treatment steps challenge the couple emotionally, mentally, and physically, you’ve come a long way and still have a lot more to experience.

However, women have many questions after the embryo transfer phase. For example, ‘Can I eat Maggi after ET’? ‘Can I walk long distances?’ ‘Can I eat KFC Chicken after embryo transfer?’ Is leg pain normal post ET? And much more.

This blog addresses one of such concerns associated with sitting position after embryo transfer.

So, continue reading to clarify your doubts about the sitting position and learn elaborately about the do’s and don’ts post ET.

What is the Best Sitting Position After Embryo Transfer?

Generally, sitting slumped to one side and keeping the knees or ankles crossed are a few worst postures to correct. When it comes to the post embryo transfer phase, women must take extra care of themselves.

But, sometimes they could forget about the transfer process and jump while sitting on the fluffy comfy sofa or stretch severely after sitting for a long time. Will these postures affect their implantation or pregnancy journey?

Let’s take a glance at them. Women can sit in any position that they are comfortable with. They can fold their legs, can even sit in a squat position without stressing much, and calmly sit up on the sofa and watch television shows.

Things women must avoid right after ET are,

  • Bending exercises.
  • Vigorous daily tasks.
  • Involving in heavy workouts.

Because these activities can push the embryos to the uterine cavity instead of pushing into the fallopian tube. So, an embryo will implant in the cavity and result in tubal or ectopic pregnancy.

If this happens, the fetus can’t be saved and leads to failure of IVF. Walking, sitting, and other normal activities won’t affect your transfer. Therefore, be more cautious and safe post ET.

Should you avoid sitting altogether?

Sitting altogether is not an issue to consider post embryo transfer. According to your comfort and convenience, women can sit, walk, and roam around their homes after ET.

The most important thing they need to consider after the transfer process is avoiding strenuous activities. And also, many women experience leg cramps, which is completely normal because of the IVF procedures

So, they can sit anywhere longer and don’t want to be afraid that sitting altogether could affect transfer and implantation.

How long can I sit after an embryo transfer?

Many women have the doubt whether I can sit longer in a place or not after ET. You can sit in any area as long as you are comfortable after embryo transfer.

This will not affect your implantation process or have any impacts on the IVF success rates

Important Post-Transfer Guidelines

The first 24 hours after the embryo transfer is quite critical. Because this is the time frame that an embryo attaches to the uterine wall before the complete implantation.

Post ET, women undergo several changes in the body. They are even more concerned and question their daily activities. Some common questions are,

  • Can I walk after ET?
  • Can I drink water after embryo transfer?
  • Is continuing my work after ET okay?
  • Can I exercise regularly post transfer?
  • Does bed rest increase the success of embryo transfer?
  • Is eating spicy food allowed after embryo transfer?

Many women ask such questions after the embryo transfer and it’s absolutely normal. This section is exclusively for such women as it explains the do’s and don’ts after embryo transfer.

So, make sure you clarify your doubts and follow the right things post embryo transfer.

Do’s post Embryo Transfer

Rest

The implantation takes place between 1 and 5 days after a blastocyst transfer. So, adequate rest is mandatory post embryo transfer.

Hydration

Fluids regulate cell hydration and promote proper cell functioning. You can drink water, fresh fruit juices, and herbal teas.

Ask your fertility expert about fluid recommendations and take them in adequate amounts.

Increase blood flow to the uterus

Improving the blood flow keeps the uterus warm, which improves the chances of implantation and the success rate of IVF.

You can use a heat compress on your abdomen. And, engage in light physical activity only if your fertility expert suggests.

Spread positive smiles

Prioritizing self care is the most important thing after embryo transfer. Thus, engage in activities that you love the most. Meditate as much as possible to keep your concentration in a positive track.

In addition, spend time with the people you love and don’t let anxiety and stress in your path

A healthy diet

Eating healthy is a common thing that everyone needs to follow daily. When it comes to fertility treatments like IVF, food plays a pivotal role in improving success rate.

So, opt for a balanced diet filled with nutrients and healthy fats. You can ask your doctor to provide a food chart. Because, fertility expert can suggest you the best diet plan throughout the IVF treatment, both after and before ET.

Follow medication

One of the mandatory things to follow post ET is proper intake of fertility medications prescribed by your doctor. Ensure you consume it until the suggested duration like up to pregnancy or a few days after ET.

Don’ts after Embryo Transfer

Avoid taking a pregnancy test right after ET.

Some women do it too early out of curiosity, but it won’t work. Because, early testing can give you false results even if you’re pregnant. It happens due to the low level of hCG in your body.

Make sure to avoid sexual intercourse after embryo transfer. Engaging in sexual activity causes uterine contractions that could interfere with embryo implantation in the uterine lining.

Hot baths

Avoid tub baths, swimming pools, beaches, and hot saunas post embryo transfer. Exposure to excessive heat can negatively impact embryo implantation and cause potential infections.

Strenuous exercise

Don’t strain your body post embryo transfer. Avoid any kind of strenuous exercise like running, weightlifting, and others. Take care of your pelvic muscles and give sufficient rest.

Additionally, avoid processed foods, carbonated sodas, uncooked items, packaged snacks, and quit alcohol and smoking habits.

Takeaway

In conclusion, your sitting position won’t have any negative impacts on embryo transfer. Don’t put too much pressure while doing any sort of work to support the implantation phase.

The following 24 hours after embryo transfer is crucial and adequate rest is mandatory for a healthy recovery. Stay home for at least one or two days post ET.  If you sense any inconvenience, then immediately make a call or fix a consultation to your gynecologist.
