Have you recently undergone an IVF cycle and are eagerly awaiting your pregnancy results? Then, this article is for you.

After embryo transfer, your major question will be whether the IVF cycle was a success or not. And the major indicator of its success is the symptoms you will get a few days after IVF.

So, what symptoms will you experience if your IVF cycle is a success? Read below to find out.

What Are The Success Symptoms Of IVF?

Before learning about the symptoms you might experience after an IVF success, know this. Every woman is different, and everyone experiences pregnancy differently. So, the pregnancy symptoms one woman experiences may not be present in other women.

The symptoms we are going to discuss below are also like that. Below are some of the possible pregnancy symptoms you might experience after an IVF success. You might have some and not have some. So, don’t panic if you only experience a few of the symptoms we discuss below.

Implantation Bleeding

Implantation bleeding is one of the most common symptoms of IVF success. About a week or two after embryo transfer, you might have slight bleeding or spotting from your vagina.

You don’t need to worry if it is the start of your menstruation. This is implantation bleeding, which happens when the embryo implants into the uterine lining.

Unlike menstrual bleeding, this bleeding only lasts for a few days and is pinkish or brownish in color, contrary to the bright red of period blood.

Breast Tenderness

Having tender and sore breasts is a common symptom of pregnancy. This occurs mainly due to the sudden hormonal changes that happen in your body during pregnancy.

Note that you might also have tender breasts due to the progesterone hormones administered during IVF treatments. So, this is not a definite sign of pregnancy.

Fatigue

This is also caused by the rapid hormonal changes in your body. They can make you feel fatigued and tired. This is mainly due to the sudden surge in the progesterone hormone during pregnancy. Your body also spend lots of energy growting the embryo. This can also make you feel tired.

Fatigue and tiredness can also be caused due to hormonal injections and IVF procedures. So, being tired after IVF does not necessarily point toward a positive IVF cycle.

Mild Cramping

You might also start experiencing mild cramping a week after embryo transfer. This is mainly caused by implantation, when the embryo burrows itself into the uterine lining. This can cause slight pressure on your pelvic area and cause mild cramping.

You might also experience slight pelvic pain as the uterus adjusts itself to accommodate the growing embryo.

However, you might also get cramping due to hormonal changes and IVF procedures. So, it is not a definite symptom of pregnancy.

Nausea

Nausea is one of the most telling signs of pregnancy and is more prominent during the early stages (first trimester), where your body undergoes rapid hormonal changes.

You might have actual vomiting, or sometimes, you will just feel sick or queasy. The intensity of vomiting varies from person to person.

Changes In Basal Body Temperature

Your basal body temperature (BBT) is your body temperature when you rest. After a successful embryo transfer, you can feel a slight increase in your BBT.

This increase in temperature will remain this way for the next two to three weeks before returning to normal. You can note this change in temperature if you routinely note your temperature

Heightened Sense Of Smell

Have you noticed that pregnant women suddenly like or dislike certain foods they have been having for a long time? This is also another IVF success symptom indicating a positive pregnancy.

The hormonal changes that go on in your body after IVF success can affect your sense of taste and smell, interfering with your food preferences. This can make you dislike the food you have always liked or like foods that you have always avoided.

Increased Vaginal Discharge

After a successful IVF procedure, you will notice an increase in vaginal discharge. This discharge serves as a protective barrier and is responsible for preventing any germs or infections from reaching your uterus or the developing embryo.

Positive Pregnancy Test

Rather than expecting to experience the symptoms we discussed above, it is best to confirm your pregnancy through a pregnancy test. Wait for about two weeks after embryo transfer to take a pregnancy test.

These two weeks will give the embryo enough time to implant and release the hCG hormones into the bloodstream. Your home pregnancy test kit will then measure the levels of hCG hormones in your urine to determine pregnancy.

If you don’t trust a home pregnancy kit, you can visit your hospital and take a blood test or ultrasound to confirm pregnancy.
