Get gynecology treatment from one of the best gynaecologists in Chennai
Throughout my years as a leading gynaecologist, I have seen many young and adult women who come to me with gynaecological problems. Gynaecological problems are the major cause of infertility, so treating them early helps prevent infertility in women.
Gynaecology is a branch of medicine that primarily deals with issues related to the female reproductive system. Gynaecology involves treating women who are not pregnant, while Obstetrics involves treating pregnant women. They are often combined to form a unified field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB-GYN).
As the best gynaecologist in Chennai, I take care of a woman’s reproductive health right from puberty until post-menopause. This includes the uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. Breast and cervical cancers are the major gynaecological issues women face.

Breast cancer screening
Breast cancer screening is done to check a woman’s breast for cancer before there are any symptoms or indicators of cancer. It is done with an instrument called a mammogram. Although breast cancer screening does not prevent breast cancer, it helps us diagnose cancer early and start treatments.
A mammography is an X-Ray of the breast. A mammogram is an effective technique to detect breast cancer early and prevent women from dying from breast cancer. It can detect tumours that are too small to feel and can also help detect ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
- There are three types of mammogram screening that can be done on the breasts
- Film mammography - An X-Ray picture of the breast.
- Digital mammography - A computer picture of the breast.
- Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) - This test uses X-Rays to take pictures of the breast from different angles.
- These X-Rays are then combined to form a 3-D picture of the breast.
Cervical cancer screening
There are three types of screening to detect cervical cancer. They are
- The Pap test (Pap Smear or cervical cytology) collects cervical cells that can be tested for any signs of HPV that may lead to cervical cancer.
- The HPV test (Human Papilloma Virus test) helps detect any infection in the cells with high-risk HPV types that can cause cervical cancer.
- The HPV/Pap co-test combines both
- the HPV test and Pap test to check for both high-risk HPV and cervical cell damage.
Adolescent gynaecology
Adolescence is a challenging period in a woman’s life as she experiences certain body changes that she was unaware of. Even though parents try to educate their kids on these changes, they might feel uncomfortable discussing certain topics. They will need the help of an expert to help their kids understand what they are going through.
This is where a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist (PAG) comes in. These PAGs treat gynaecological problems in young women, adolescents and children. They treat girls with issues like ovarian cysts in newborns, puberty and menstruation issues, and other gynaecology-related issues.
